How to Nominate an Agent in Online Services for Business

Follow these three steps to nominate Ideal Business Group as your registered agent.

Step 1 — Create a Strong myID
  • Download and set up the myID app (formerly myGovID). Website: https://www.myid.gov.au
  • You will need:
    • a smartphone
    • a personal email address
    • your passport
    • one additional identity document (driver licence, Medicare card, etc.)
  • Follow the prompts in the app to verify your identity. Your identity strength should show as Strong.
Step 2 — Link your Business in RAM

Steps

  • Log in using your myID
  • Select Link my business
  • Enter your address details
  • Select the ABN you want to link
  • Enter your email address
  • Enter the verification code sent to your email
  • Accept the declaration
  • Once completed you will see Business successfully linked.
Important Note for Trusts
  • If the entity is a trust, the person completing the process must be:
  • the trustee, or
  • a director of the corporate trustee
  • If you are not listed as an associate on the ABR, the trust may not appear in RAM. This commonly occurs where a trust has a corporate trustee and the individual completing the process is a director of the trustee company.
  • In this situation the RAM may need to manually link the association. You may need to contact the RAM: Call 1300 287 539 (select option 3, then option 1 for RAM enquiries).
Step 3 — Nominate IBG Accountants
  • Once your business is linked, log into ATO Online Services for Business. https://onlineservices.ato.gov.au/business/
  • 1. Select ABN
  • 2. Select Agent Details
  • 3. Add Agent
  • 4. Select Nominate Agent
  • 5. Select Nominate Agent
  • Ideal Business Group Tax Agent Number: 26313080
  • Select and check Agent Details
  • 6. Confirm the details and submit the declaration.
Important
  • The ATO does not notify tax agents when a nomination is completed. Once you finish the nomination, please contact us so we can accept the authorisation.

Agent Linking Process

From 13 November 2023, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) introduced new security requirements for businesses. Under these rules, most entities with an ABN (excluding sole traders) must formally nominate their accountant or BAS agent before the agent can access their ATO records or add the business to their client list.

This nomination must be completed through the Agent Nomination feature in ATO Online Services for Business. Businesses will need to complete this process when they:

• Appoint a new tax agent, BAS agent, or payroll service provider to act on their behalf • Provide additional authorisation to an existing agent, such as when the agent begins assisting with a new obligation (for example income tax, BAS, or another entity within the same business group)

The following steps outline how to nominate your agent through ATO Online Services for Business. Please note that the nomination must be completed by the business itself. Your tax agent cannot submit the nomination on your behalf; however, they can assist and guide you through the process if required.
